SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and its Asian Employees Association (AEA) Tuesday, June 2nd, awarded $30,000 in scholarships to 15 college-bound students from northern and central California. Each student received a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of his or her demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, and academic achievement.

“PG&E is committed to promoting and encouraging scholastic achievement and community leadership among the region’s students,” said Fong Wan, AEA’s sponsoring officer and senior vice president of energy procurement for PG&E. “These well-deserving students reflect the excellence and diversity of our PG&E community. Through their hard work and determination, these young leaders are poised for long-term success in their fields of study.”

For more than 25 years, PG&E’s employee associations have awarded scholarships to deserving students. Scholarship funds are collected from PG&E employees’ contributions to the company’s Campaign for the Community program, AEA fundraising events and from PG&E’s corporate charitable giving.
The 2009 recipients were chosen from more than 300 applications submitted by college-bound high school seniors who live within PG&E’s service area. In addition to their academic achievements, this year’s winners have displayed a broad range of leadership qualities, are committed to serving their communities and are strong proponents of diversity and inclusion.
