Oakland Chinatown Night Market, Summer Fun in the Plaza

The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce will launch it’s first ever night market in Oakland Chinatown in the Pacific Renaissance Plaza  on 9th Street between Franklin and Webster Streets.  The Oakland Chinatown Night Market will be held on Saturday evenings starting June 20th and will go through July 25th from 4 to 9 PM.   The Night Market will feature cooking demonstrations by chefs from local restaurants, food sampling, cultural performances, entertainment, and vendors selling products.  Coupons will also be distributed to guests offering discounts at participating Chinatown merchants and businesses. The Night Market is designed to bring some excitement to Oakland Chinatown in the evenings.  “Oakland Chinatown is filled with shoppers and diners during the day; the Night Market should give people a reason to come for the evenings as well” says Carl Chan, President of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation. The Oakland Chinatown Chamber has hosted the StreetFest in late August for 20 years which attracts 100,000 people each year to the event.  The Chamber has also hosted the Lunar New Year Bazaar for 15 years, which attracts another 35,000.   “These events are important to the economic vitality of Oakland Chinatown”, says Jennie Ong, Executive Director of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce.   “The Night Market is another event that the Chamber is introducing to help foster fun and safe community activities in Oakland Chinatown in the evenings”.  The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce is currently looking for sponsors and vendors who are interested in sponsoring and/or participating in the Night Market.  If interested, please contact Jennie Ong at 510-893-8979 or visit the office at 388 9th Street, Suite 258, Oakland, CA.
